It’s been some years since I started posting mixtapes and playlists here in the shape of YT videos but they tend to feel somewhat unsatisfying for more than one reason. For one thing, videos sometimes get deleted which messes up old posts. For another, embedded videos make for clunky pages. And with what is happening in the world around us, I feel less comfortable endorsing certain platforms even if I’m forced to use them in my everyday life.
What this means for this blog: A shift in the way I post about music. This isn’t a bad thing because I’ll have to spare some brain cells to post my thoughts about the music I’m listening without the crutch of videos. It’s somewhat daunting because I always overthink text-based blog posts. On my other blogs some posts sit in drafts forever!
Well, let’s start here with what I’ve been listening to lately!
Forever is a Feeling – Lucy Dacus
Honestly, I’ve been in love with every new release by Dacus this year and it’s been really gratifying to hear how all of those singles knit together so well in this album. It’s going to be one of my firm favourites of 2025, for sure!
For Melancholy Brunettes (and sad women) – Japanese Breakfast
I’ve enjoyed Japanese Breakfast’s music over the years but this has got to be my favourite album by her so far. It’s been on autorepeat these past two weeks!
Other Music:
I’m quite eagerly anticipating Obongjayar‘s album because I’ve been excited by every new release by this new-to-me singer. There’s also been new Destroyer (!!), Panda Bear, Dirty Projectors, Ethel Cain, Perfume Genius, The Weather Station, Haim, Sharon Van Etten, Florist and Emile Mosseri. I’ll probably do a deep dive into their newer albums this year and talk about it here!
