Insecurities — Shabaka ft. Moses Sumney
The combination of Sumney’s ethereal voice with this sonic wizardry makes this song a total win for me.
Burial Ground — The Decemberists
The Decemberists continue to be bad-ass. True story, The Hazards of Love stirred in me aspirations to write my own rock opera. When it comes to me it will likely be post-rock.
How Can I Love Her More — The Lemon Twigs
I will always associate this song with a random moment: eating takoyaki on a stick, and diet soda in the car after a post-work grocery shopping run. This song started playing and I just felt with surprise this moment of unalloyed joy as the fog of numbness and unhappiness I’d had hanging over me for months, maybe years just suddenly lifted. I was all, “Whoah.” And then I was all, “Hey, this song is pretty great!”. So, I will always associate this song with happiness.
No Problems — Ginger Root
A new Ginger Root song is always like getting a letter from an old friend. I love this song and the album so much.
Once a Bunch — Adrianne Lenker
This song makes me smile. It’s just such a lovely, whimsical number which is also quite melancholy in a sense.
Don’t Let Me Down Again — Andrew Bird & Madison Cunningham
Hands down my favourite duet of 2024. Or maybe of the past decade.
