Well well well, it’s Friday again, the day in which I do a more eclectic mixtape. I like to drop my Friday Night Mixtapes early!
The End of The World (cover) — Sharon Van Etten
Oh, I don’t know why this song is earworming me. Honestly! 🙄 But it’s inspired this mixtape!
One More Kiss, Dear — Vangelis
From one apocalyptic song to another and on to the next…
The Dead Flag Blues — Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Meteorites — Yann Tiersen (Aidan Moffatt, vocals)
The first time I heard this, I swooned and had to write the music algorithm a love story. A post-apocalyptic love story, of course. No one’s accepted it yet, alas.
Kirlian Auras — Lichens
My post-post apocalyptic space opera far future short story written while listening obsessively to Lichens was however published, in Clarkesworld!
Song the The Siren — This Mortal Coil
Friday I’m In Love (cover) – Phoebe Bridgers
I thought the best cover of this song was the Yo La Tengo version, but this one I really enjoy and still remember that late night last year when, after a concert, I stopped at a drive-in for fried chicken (me, the calorie counting nut), bought fried chicken and sang along to this song on that midnight drive home, and felt so goddamned alive. I was in love. With life. And fried chicken. Things we think about when the world’s falling to pieces around us. Love and Apocalypse.
Utopia — Goldfrapp
All utopias are inherently dystopian. That’s the hill I choose to die on, but Alison Goldfrapp makes her dystopian utopia sound so sexy! I used to — for a very short time, have this as a ringtone on my motorola phone, back in 2006. I think it freaked out some of my colleagues though so…
The Real Folk Blues (Cowboy Bebop End Credits) — Seatbelts, feat. Mai Yamane
Featured post is one of the pictures I shot during the GY!BE concert in Kuala Lumpur in 2013.
